By the end of this course, students will be able to understand key concepts and theories in second language vocabulary acquisition and apply research to their own teaching and learning. Topics covered will include the goals of vocabulary learning, knowing a word, roles of the teacher, vocabulary learning strategies, multiword units, and vocabulary testing.
Through reading assignments, lectures, and group discussions, students will acquire basic principles of second language vocabulary acquisition. Students will also be asked to participate in a number of group activities to better understand the concepts and theories covered in class.

毎週20～40ページ程度の英語で書かれた専門的な文献を読むことが求められるため、参加者には一定の英語読解力が必要となる。
第二言語語彙習得に影響を与える様々な要因について学び、それらを外国語教育および学習に生かす方法について考察する。具体的には、覚えるべき語彙の選定方法、語彙知識の構成要素、教師の役割、語彙学習方略、定型表現の習得・処理・使用、語彙知識の測定等について理解を深める。
By the end of this course, students will be able to understand key concepts and theories in second language vocabulary acquisition and apply research to their own teaching and learning. Topics covered will include the goals of vocabulary learning, knowing a word, roles of the teacher, vocabulary learning strategies, multiword units, and vocabulary testing.
文献講読や講義を通して、第二言語語彙習得について学ぶ。第二言語語彙習得に関する最も包括的な概説書であるLearning vocabulary in another language (3rd ed.)を精読し、第二言語語彙習得のさまざまな側面について検討する。
授業は受講生による発表およびディスカッションを中心に進める。発表担当者は担当箇所（毎週20～40ページ程度）の要点をまとめ、発表することが求められる。
