Upon successfully completing this course, students should be able to:
(1) Understand the fundamental approaches to discourse analysis.
(2) Demonstrate comprehension of terminology used in discourse analysis.
(3) Apply concepts developed in discourse analysis to other fields of study.
This course introduces students to the field of discourse analysis by exploring major areas such as society, pragmatics, genre, critical discourse analysis, and multimodality. It provides a framework for understanding both verbal and non-verbal communication.
The course also emphasizes the practical application of discourse analysis in fields such as language teaching and media studies.
Students will learn to analyze language and non-verbal features through the lens of discourse analysis, developing a deeper understanding of communication in various contexts.
