Students will (1) understand the relationship between intercultural communication studies and memory studies, and (2) examine historical revisionism, which is tied to both racism and nationalism, by referring to the concept of collective memory.
Since the 2010s, intercultural communication research incorporating the concept of collective memory has increased. Collective memory, which is tied to culture, history, identity, and media among others, is an extremely relevant concept to intercultural communication studies. In the early part of this course, we will examine the relationship between intercultural communication studies and memory studies. Then we will grasp the overview of memory studies by reading an introductory textbook of memory studies. Lastly, we will look into historical revisionism, which is tied to both racism and nationalism, critical issues for intercultural communication, by referring to the concept of collective memory.

毎回の小レポートにはフィードバックを行う。
異文化コミュニケーション研究と記憶研究の関連性を理解し、人種主義とナショナリズムの両方と密接につながる歴史修正主義を集合的記憶という概念を使って考察する。
Students will (1) understand the relationship between intercultural communication studies and memory studies, and (2) examine historical revisionism, which is tied to both racism and nationalism, by referring to the concept of collective memory.
２０１０年代以降、異文化コミュニケーション研究で集合的記憶に注目した研究が増加している。文化、歴史、アイデンティティ、メディアなどが関わる集合的記憶は異文化コミュニケーション研究にとっても非常に関連性の高い概念である。この授業ではまず異文化コミュニケーション研究と記憶研究の関連性を考えた後、記憶研究についての入門書を読み進めて記憶研究の全体像を把握する。そして、集合的記憶という概念から、異文化コミュニケーションの重要な課題である人種主義とナショナリズムの両方と密接に関わる歴史修正主義を考察していく。
