Students will (1) understand the connection between intercultural communication studies and memory studies, and (2) examine memory as a social practice and its relationship with culture, media, narrative, history, nationalism, and racism.
Memory as a social practice, intertwined with culture, history, media, narrative, and identity, is a concept very relevant to intercultural communication. This course will first examine the connection between intercultural communication studies and memory studies. After overviewing how memory has been conceptualized as a social practice in various academic fields, we will explore its relationship with culture, media, narrative, history, nationalism, and racism.

異文化コミュニケーション研究と記憶研究の関連性を理解し、社会的行為としての記憶と文化、メディア、ナラティブ、歴史、ナショナリズム、人種主義との関連性について考察する
Students will (1) understand the connection between intercultural communication studies and memory studies, and (2) examine memory as a social practice and its relationship with culture, media, narrative, history, nationalism, and racism.
社会的行為としての記憶は文化、歴史、メディア、ナラティブ、アイデンティティなど関わっており、異文化コミュニケーションと非常に関連性の高い概念である。この授業ではまず異文化コミュニケーション研究と記憶研究の関連性を考えた後、社会的行為としての記憶が多様な学術分野でどのように概念化されてきたのかについて概観する。そして、文化、メディア、ナラティブ、歴史、ナショナリズム、人種主義などがどのように社会的行為としての記憶と関係しているのかについて考察していく。
