This course is designed to support graduate students in theorizing tradition, everyday life, and lived experiences through the lens of folkloristics. Students will develop a deep understanding of fundamental concepts in folklore studies and acquire essential skills, including selecting research topics, conducting fieldwork, organizing collected data, and applying theoretical frameworks from folklore studies, cultural anthropology, ethnic studies and related fields to successfully complete their research projects.
Students will engage with classic texts in folklore studies and participate in discussions with the instructor. They will also present their research projects to the class and contribute to discussions on their peers’ projects. This collaborative process aims to refine and tailor each student’s work through mutual feedback and shared insights.
