Economic growth-oriented aid and development led by developed countries and international organizations have caused numerous social and environmental issues on a global scale. Therefore it is necessary for us to examine theory and practice to move away from the current economic growth-oriented paradigm and move toward social development that considers a people-centered approach and promotes well-being. In this class, you will study issues related to "the significance of social development" that have emerged from a critical review of large-scale development and aid by developed countries and international organizations through previous studies and discussions. You will also learn about civil society components and the role it plays in promoting social development. In addition, this class will focus on international labour migration.
Furthermore, this course aims not only to raise students' interest in global social issues and social development and cultivate their ability to analyze previous studies, but also to enable them to write academic papers and make presentations at academic conferences.
Developed countries among the OECD (Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development) and international organizations have allowed economic growth in developing countries by modernizing industries and introducing modern technologies. What are the influences of aid and large-scale development on the poor living in rural areas? You will examine issues through previous studies on "the significance of social development" and "the role of civil society" that have come to be recognized as having large impacts. In this class, you are expected to prepare thoroughly, actively participate and participate in the discussion.

各学生が問題意識に基づいて研究テーマを設定するためには，研究活動の始めとして，社会問題に関する文献や資料をなるべく多く収集し，先行研究を分析する必要がある。そのことを前提として, 本演習では，各学参加学生による報告，活発な議論をとりいれる。そのため，事前の準備を要する。また，基礎文献の輪読（必要に応じて，外国語文献・論文を紹介する）を通して活発な議論を展開したい。
In order to be able to choose a research topic based on personal interest and problem awareness, it is necessary for each student to collect as much academic literature and material on social issues as possible, and analyze past studies, as a beginning of postgraduate research. On the premise that they have done so, students will make presentations and engage in discussions in the class. Therefore, both preparation before the class and participation in class discussions are required.
Also, this course encourages active discussions based on the collective reading of academic literature (including English books and academic papers, when necessary).

2.「ニューヨーク市におけるバングラデシュ出身の移民：移民第二世代の生活実態調査」研究代表者・鈴木弥生（基盤研究（C）課題番号：18K11792：2018～2024年度)。
先進国や国際機関が主導する経済成長志向の援助や開発は, 地球規模で多くの社会問題や環境問題を引き起こしている。それゆえ, これまでの経済開発のパラダイムから脱却し, 人間中心のアプローチを考慮してwell-being を推進する社会開発を実施するための理論と方法を検討する必要がある。この授業では, 先進国や国際機関による大規模な開発や援助を批判的に検討し, これまでの研究や議論を通じて重要性を増してきた「社会開発（発展）の意義」について論点を整理する。 また, 市民社会の構成要素と, それが社会開発（発展）の推進に果たす役割について理解を深める。 さらに, 国際労働移動にも焦点を当てる。そのうえ, グローバルな社会問題や社会開発への関心を高めて先行研究を分析する能力を養うだけでなく, 学術論文を書いたり, 学術会議でプレゼンテーションを行ったりすることを目標としている。

途上国の開発は，OECD加盟の先進諸国や国際開発機関による近代的技術の導入と巨額の資金によって諸産業の近代化を図り，経済成長の達成をめざして進められてきた。そうした援助や大規模開発は，現地で生活する貧困層にどのような影響を及ぼしているのであろうか。その影響を分析するなかで認識されるようになった「社会開発の意義」そして「市民社会の役割」について，文献講読を通して論点を整理する。各自の準備に基づき，演習では活発な議論を展開したい。
