The terms "SDGs," "environmentally symbiotic society," and "Anthropocene" have begun to appear on the political and economic stage. These reflect a reconsideration of economic activities that have neglected the environment and represent a shared recognition of the need to explore new relationships between humans and nature. The "nature" that is recalled in this context is the "ecosystem" symbolized by biodiversity, yet for many contemporary people, nature is an abstract concept. To prevent the realization of SDGs and an environmentally symbiotic society from being mere "lip service," this course aims to encourage participants to review their daily lives and choices from the perspective of biodiversity and enhance their scientific and social literacy regarding nature.
"Biodiversity," a topic often perceived as remote and unrelated to our daily lives, is, in fact, an immediate concern whose future is significantly shaped by the choices we make. By examining the challenges surrounding the natural environment from various perspectives, we will discuss the impact of human activities on the current state of the environment, the true meaning of sustainability, and explore the ideal form of social systems.

Students should be interested in and research keywords such as SDGs, environmentally friendly society, sustainability, the Anthropocene, green economy, clean energy, and biodiversity. Students should review the topics after each class and present what they have learned at the beginning of the following week's class.

「SDGｓ」「環境共生型社会」「人新世」といった言葉が政治経済の表舞台に登場するようになった。これらは環境をないがしろにしてきた経済活動に対する反省であり、人と自然の関係性に新たな模索の必要になったという共通認識にほかならない。そこで想起される「自然」とは生物多様性に象徴される「生態系」のことだが、多くの現代人にとって自然は抽象的な存在である。SDGｓ、環境共生型社会の実現を“口先”だけのものにしないために、私たちの日々の暮らしやその選択を生物多様性の視点で振り返り、自然に対する科学的・社会的リテラシーを高める。
前期課程より高度で学術的な独創的研究遂行力を身に付けることを目標とする。

とかく縁遠いと思われがちな「生物多様性」は、じつはとても身近な問題であり、その未来は私たちの暮らしの選択に大きく左右される。自然環境を取り巻く課題をさまざまな角度から考察することで、人間活動を環境の現状、持続可能性の真の意味を議論し、理想的な社会システムのありようについて考察する。
