The goal of this class is to acquire knowledge of various events and phenomena surrounding music in modern society, to be able to consider music in its broader relationship to society, and to develop a perspective for interpreting the state of society through music.
This class will focus on various events and phenomena surrounding music in modern society, such as music-themed films and tourism, urban development, and music festivals. Students will also consider the relationship between music and society, as well as its transformation, and learn how to interpret society through music. In doing so, a wide range of music culture will be covered, including popular music and classical music. Please note that the content and order of the lesson plan may change depending on the number of students, etc.

本科目は授業回の全てにおいて、理論等学術的な知見を踏まえつつ、担当教員の実務家としての経験、または研究成果を活かし、教員と学生との双方向の討論を重視した実践的な授業とする。学生には、課題の発表や討論など、授業での積極的な参加を期待する。
本科目は、博士課程後期課程におけるコースワーク科目である。後期課程の受講者は、前期課程の受講者より高度な知識・スキルを身に付けることを目標としたうえで、成績評価基準についても、前期課程の受講者より高度な達成水準を要求する。
この授業では、音楽をめぐる様々な事象・現象に関する知識を身につけ、音楽について広く社会との関係のなかで考察するとともに、音楽文化を通して社会のありようを読み解く視点を習得することを目標とします。

この授業では、音楽作品やアーティストそのものではなく、音楽をめぐる様々な事象や現象――音楽をテーマにした映画と観光現象、まちづくり、音楽フェスティバルなど――について取り上げます。そして、音楽と人間／社会との関係、およびその変容について考察し、音楽文化を通して社会のありようを読み解く視点を提示します。ここでは、ポピュラー音楽や芸術音楽（クラシック音楽）など、幅広い音楽文化を対象にします。なお、受講者の人数等により、授業計画の内容・順序等を一部変更する場合があります。
