1. Students understand theories, empirical findings, and research methodologies of text comprehension.
2. Studnets can identify the gaps in the current text compreension research and consider research that could address these flaws.
3. Students can devise effective second-language learning and instruction based on theoretical and empirical findings of text comprehension research.
In this course, students will learn theories and empirical findings of text comprehension and consider effective reading instruction in a foreign language.
Students will read research papers on text comprehension and second language (L2) reading, and make presentation in class. They will then discuss the methods, results, and its theoretical and educational implications.
Through these activities, students will explore methods for effectively instructing and learning reading in a foreign language.

| 受講生はプレゼンテーションソフト (PowerPoint, Keynote等) で作成した担当文献のプレゼンテーションを，PCとスクリーンを使用して行う。発表箇所の文献は電子ファイルで配布するため，毎回の授業でPCかタブレット端末を使用する。 |
各自担当する文献をしっかりと読み込み，そのプレゼンテーションを準備を確実に行うことが求められる。
また，毎回の授業の後に授業で扱われた文献を自分で読み直し，自分のことばでまとめ直すことが求められる。

英語リーディングや文章理解に興味があること。
20〜40ページの英語の関連文献を数日で読み込み，その内容を理解できること (英検準1級程度の英語力が望ましい)。
PCを毎回持参すること。
1. テキスト理解の理論，実証的証拠，研究手法を理解している。
2. テキスト理解研究の未解明点を踏まえ，どのような研究が必要かを考察できる。
3. テキスト理解の理論と実証的証拠に基づき効果的な読解指導や学習を考察できる。

本科目では，外国語による文章理解に関する理論と実証的知見を学び，効果的な英文読解指導について考える。
具体的には，受講生はテキスト理解や第二言語読解の研究論文を読み込み，その内容を授業でプレゼンテーションする。そして研究の手法，結果，考察，理論的，教育的意義についてディスカッションを行う。
これらの活動を通して，外国語における読解を効果的に指導したり，学習したりできる方法について考察する。
