To deepen understanding of the origins and evolution of Translation and Interpreting Studies and to gain full knowledge of different approaches to and methods in translation and interpreting research, with focus on those relevant to students' doctoral research.
Starting with discussion on what translation is and what interpreting is, this course provides an overview of Translation and Interpreting Studies, including its origins and evolution, and key concepts and theories. Then it focuses on different approaches to and methods in translation and interpreting research. Students are required to give a presentation on research methods and submit a final report. Doctoral students are expected to meet the format and requirements appropriate for conference presentations.

Students are expected to complete a reading assignment every week. At the end of the course, students are required to give a presentation on research methods and submit a final report.

翻訳通訳研究の起源と展開について理解を深めるとともに、翻訳通訳研究におけるさまざまなアプローチや研究方法について十分な知識を得る。特に、履修生の博士論文研究に関連するものに焦点を当てる。
To deepen understanding of the origins and evolution of Translation and Interpreting Studies and to gain full knowledge of different approaches to and methods in translation and interpreting research, with focus on those relevant to students' doctoral research.
翻訳とは何か、通訳とは何かについての議論から始まり、通訳翻訳研究の起源と展開、鍵となる概念や理論を含む通訳翻訳研究の概要について学ぶ。次に、通訳翻訳研究におけるさまざまなアプローチや研究方法に焦点を当てる。履修者は研究方法に関するプレゼンテーションを行い、最終レポートを提出する。博士後期課程の学生は、学会発表を念頭においた形式・要件を満たすことを期待する。
