This course aims to deepen students’ understanding of diverse perspectives and foundational concepts and theories in the field of intercultural communication. Through the critical application of these frameworks to their own research, students will develop the ability to reconceptualize their research from alternative perspectives.
This is an introductory course on theories of intercultural communication. We will read various major works and research papers to understand fundamental concepts and theories, as well as different paradigms in the field. Through lectures, in-class discussions, and presentations, we will examine various definitions of culture, the relationship between culture and communication, and how power differences play a role in shaping today’s globalized society.

事前学習として、指定された文献を読み、ディスカッション・クエスチョンを用意して授業に臨むこと（所要時間 約２時間）。各回の講義やディスカッションをふまえて自分の研究テーマとの関連について考察し、最終レポートの準備としてまとめることを事後学習として行う（約１時間）。また、自分が発表を担当するテーマについての論文や研究を読み、発表の準備を行う（５時間×３回）。

異文化コミュニケーション領域の研究における異なる視座および基礎的な概念や理論への理解を深める。これらを自分自身の研究テーマに批判的に当てはめることにより、これまでとは異なる視座から自身の研究課題をとらえられるようになることを目標とする。

異文化コミュニケーション領域における理論入門コース。異文化コミュニケーション領域における基礎的な概念や理論に関する文献を精読して理解を深めるとともに、異文化コミュニケーション研究の異なる視座について学ぶ。また、授業内での発表やディスカッションを通し、文化とはどのように定義できるのか、文化とコミュニケーションとはどのように関係しているのか、グローバル化社会における「異文化」へのまなざしと権力の関係性とはどのようなものなのかについて考察していく。
