This course is designed to provide a clear understanding of the issue of instructed second language (L2) pragmatics. Students will gain fundamental and comprehensive knowledge of both related second language acquisition (SLA) theories and empirical research methods that are pertinent to explore instructional effects in L2 pragmatics in the specific theoretical frameworks.
In second language pragmatics, one of the research areas in SLA, an attempt has been made to explore possibilities of learners acquiring their L2 pragmatic competence in classroom settings. In this course, we will focus on teaching pragmatics, but from different theoretical perspectives. The target theories will include Noticing Hypothesis, Skill Acquisition Theory, and Usage-based Model, all of which are the major theories in the cognitive and psychological approaches to SLA. We will examine the findings of empirical studies undertaken within the framework of these theories.

第二言語習得研究の一分野としての「第二言語語用論」では，教室内での指導をとおして第二言語語用論的能力の習得の可能性を探る試みが行われてきた。この講義では，同テーマを扱った研究に焦点を当てるが，複数の理論的枠組みにおいて考察する。対象とする理論的枠組みとは，第二言語習得研究の認知心理学的アプローチの中心的な理論である「気づき仮説」・「技能習得理論」・「用法基盤モデル」である。それぞれの理論的枠組みにおいて実践された実証研究の成果を検証する。
