As a result of successfully completing this course, students should be able to:
1. understand the basic approcahes in discourse analysis,
2. comprehend the notions of discourse analysis terminology,
3. apply notions developed in discourse analysis to other areas of study,
4. choose an appropriate discourse analysis tool for a specific purpose of analysis.
This course leads you to the field of discourse analysis by covering the major areas of discourse analysis such as society, pragmatics, genre, critical discourse analysis and multimodality. Students will have the perspective to understandverbal and non-verbal communication.
This course also focuses on how discourse analysis can be applied to other fields such as langauge teaching and media studies.
Students in this course will be able to analyze language and non-verbal features from the perspective ofdiscourse analysis. They will also be able to choose an appropriate discourse analysis tool depending the purpose of discourse analaysis.
