【Course Objectives】

Upon successfully completing this course, students should be able to:

(1) Understand the fundamental approaches to discourse analysis.
(2) Demonstrate comprehension of discourse analysis terminology.
(3) Apply concepts developed in discourse analysis to other areas of study.
(4) Select appropriate discourse analysis tools for specific analytical purposes.

【Course Contents】

This course introduces students to the field of discourse analysis by exploring major areas such as society, pragmatics, genre, critical discourse analysis, and multimodality. It provides students with the perspective to understand both verbal and non-verbal communication.

The course also highlights how discourse analysis can be applied to various fields, including language teaching and media studies.

By the end of the course, students will be able to analyze language and non-verbal features through the lens of discourse analysis. They will also be equipped to select appropriate discourse analysis tools based on the specific purposes of their analyses.
