This course deals with fundamentals of rhetorical criticism. In so doing, the course aims to promote the theoretical understanding about rhetorical criticism in practice.
This course will focus specifically on the theoretical understanding of a rhetorical perspective, rhetorical acts, and visual rhetoric. While learning the methodology of fantasy theme analysis, narrative analysis, ideological analysis, postmodern criticism and social movement analysis, the course will emphasize the ideological issues—why critical analysis is needed and what consists of the text.

本科目では、コミュニケーション研究における代表的なレトリカル批評（Rhetorical Criticism）の基礎と方法論を学ぶ。博士課程後期履修生は、レトリカル批評（Rhetorical Criticism）の方法論を用いた事例研究を通して、実践的にクリティカルな「言語力」の向上を目指す。
This course deals with fundamentals of rhetorical criticism. In so doing, the course aims to promote the theoretical understanding about rhetorical criticism in practice.
実証的な事例研究を行うことを通して、言語テクスト及び映像テクストを読み解くためのファンタジーテーマ分析、物語分析、イデオロギー分析、ポストモダン批評、社会運動分析といった方法論を身につける。加えて、なぜ批判的な分析(Critical Analysis)をするのか、メッセージの持つ意味とは何か、イデオロギー等に関する問題を批判的に検証する。
