Students will acquire an understanding of the concepts and theories related to media representations of disability and will be able to apply this knowledge to the analysis and critical examination of their research topics.
This course examines media representations of disability in film and television from a communication perspective. It introduces key concepts related to disability and traces the historical development of disability representations in the media, with attention to recent trends. The course also analyzes the depiction of communication involving people with disabilities in media texts, as well as the act of viewing and interpreting disability representations as a communicative practice.

メディアの障害表象に関する概念および理論を理解し、研究テーマの分析・考察に応用することができる。
Students will acquire an understanding of the concepts and theories related to media representations of disability and will be able to apply this knowledge to the analysis and critical examination of their research topics.
障害は映画やテレビのなかで様々に描かれてきた。この授業では、障害表象を題材としながら、障害をめぐるコミュニケーションについて考える。まず「障害とは何か」を理解したうえで、障害がメディアのなかでどのように描かれてきたのか、また、近年それがどのように描かれるようになったのか、その通時的変遷を追う。そのうえでコミュニケーションの観点から、メディアのなかに描かれる障害者のコミュニケーションの様相や、障害表象を観るというコミュニケーション行為について考察する。
This course examines media representations of disability in film and television from a communication perspective. It introduces key concepts related to disability and traces the historical development of disability representations in the media, with attention to recent trends.
