This course re-examines cultural phenomena emerging from conflict and displacement in the Middle East as a nexus where aesthetics and politics intersect. It aims to critically analyze how historical and political frameworks are reconstructed through expressive forms. Furthermore, the course will examine the precarious nature of these works as they are consumed globally, with a particular focus on the risks of facile empathy and the reinforcement of stereotypes from a specialized perspective.
This course explores literary works that address conflict or emerge from conflict zones, with a specific focus on the modern Middle East. Students will examine the socio-political contexts underlying the production and reception of these works. Through the lenses of postcolonialism, gender, and language choice, we will critically analyze how the act of writing serves as a mode of resistance against violence and power, what it seeks to represent, and the mechanisms through which such literature circulates globally.

履修する際「なぜこの作品は、今、この言語で、このように語られたのか？」という問いを常に持ち続けること。
本講義では、中東における紛争と移動が生成する文化的事象を、美学と政治の領野が交差する結節点として捉え直し、歴史や政治の枠組みが、表現によっていかに作り替えられるのか、また、それらがグローバルな世界で消費される際の危うさ（安易な共感やステレオタイプ）についても、専門的な視点から批判的に検討することを目標とする。

本講義では、現代中東地域を中心に紛争を扱った／紛争地で生まれた文学作品を検討する。作品が生まれ、読まれる背景について理解し、「書くこと」がいかにして暴力や権力に抗い、何を表象するのか、さらにはそうした作品がいかに流通するのかについて、ポストコロニアリズム、ジェンダー、言語選択といった視点から多角的に分析する。
