Contemporary Bible research was established and has subsequently developed mainly against the historical backdrop of the ideas, that is, the Enlightenment and historicism in the modern West. Methodologies have become more diverse in the area of New Testament interpretation, especially since the 1970's. Currently, such diverse approaches of Biblical criticism can be broadly classified into the following: that which focuses on the generation of texts, that which focuses on the relationship with the social and cultural background as a context, that which focuses on the various aspects of communication within story texts or via texts itself, and that which carries out self-reflection with regard to the role of Biblical criticism itself from the viewpoint of self-verification of interpretation. In this course, you will develop an understanding of several typical methodologies for contemporary Biblical criticism and are introduced to the basics of New Testament interpretation with exegetical application examples.
After the introduction, you will make a research presentation (individually or in groups) based on your original research and interpretations. Then, we will hold a debate involving all students in the class.

現代の聖書研究は、西欧近代における啓蒙主義と歴史主義を主たる思想史的背景として誕生し、発展してきた。さらに新約聖書解釈の分野では、とりわけ1970年代以降、方法論の多様化が進んだ。現在では、それら多様な批評学は、テクストの「生成」に焦点を合わせるアプローチ、「コンテクスト」としての社会的・文化的背景との関係に焦点を合わせるアプローチ、物語テクストの内部ないしテクストを介してなされる「コミュニケーション」の諸相に注目するアプローチ、さらには批評学それ自体の立ち位置について「解釈の自己検証」という視点から自己省察を行うアプローチに大別される。本講では、現代におけるいくつかの代表的な批評学の方法論について理解し、その釈義的な適用例を学ぶことで新約聖書解釈への入門を行う。

導入の後、履修者（個人ないしグループ）が独自の調査と読解に基づいて研究発表を行い、その上で履修者全員による討論を行う。
