The four gospels stand at the beginning of the New Testament, the second part of the Bible. They are religious stories about Jesus of Nazareth who is believed to be Chriist. Each gospel has specific features, and behind it there were oral or written traditions. By analyzing the traditions and redactional works of the gospel writers according to some topics, the students will learn the historical figure of Jesus and its interpretative relation to the Christian faith in the making.

【Course Contents】

After some introductory remarks we discuss about the topics like the historical existence of Jesus, the concept of "gospel," the birth of Jesus, his charisma, the concept of "Kingdom of God," his miracles, parables, ethics, the practice of his common meals and the last supper, his death and resurrection and the early Christian interpretations of his death.
