【Course Objectives】

Continuing from Seminars H9, students will deepen their awareness of history based on historical materials, will set their own issues in contemporary Japanese history, and will understand fundamentals for verifying these, while learning the basics of contemporary Japanese history.

【Course Contents】

The subjects of research will involve contemporary Japanese history, especially socioeconomic and environmental history in the 1970s and 1980s. All participants will prepare the specified literature and historical materials ahead of the class. In the class, one or two participants will take the role of reporter, after which all members will take part in Q&As based on the reports. Specifically, the course will include the following:
1. Reading of fundamental literature concerning contemporary Japanese history
2. Reading of historical materials concerning socioeconomic and environment history in the 1970s and 1980s
3. Reading of related historical materials and literature, based on preceding in-class reading of historical materials
The class will judge progress with an emphasis on students' degree of understanding and interest, and will advance through repetition of the above steps 1-3. Finally, students will summarize their one-year research results in a short essay.
