While fieldworking the site of Yoshiwara Yukaku, which was the most famous Yukaku in Japan, we will listen to related people and deepen their knowledge and awareness of the history of Yukaku and sex trading and the experiences of women and men there.
Many sex shops are still lined up on the site of Yoshiwara Yukaku, and many men pay money to have sexual intercourse with women. What kind of people were the men who came to Yoshiwara Yukaku to buy women, and what was the experience of the women who were made to deal with them? After world war Ⅱ, the Yukaku should have been abolished, so why are there still sex shops in Yoshiwara? In this class, students will first read and report on basic literature and historical materials related to sex trading in modern Japan, including Yoshiwara. After that, we will walk around the site of Yoshiwara Yukaku and deepen our awareness of Yoshiwara's past and present, and interview related people. Eventually, the students will share the work and prepare a report. A briefing session will be held in early April , and the specific schedule will be announced, so applicants must attend this.

日本で最も有名な遊廓であった吉原遊廓等の跡地をフィールドワークするとともに、できれば関連する人への聞き取りを行ない、近代遊廓と性売買の歴史とそこでの女性・男性の経験について知識と認識を深める。
While fieldworking the site of Yoshiwara Yukaku, which was the most famous Yukaku in Japan, we will listen to related people and deepen their knowledge and awareness of the history of Yukaku and sex trading and the experiences of women and men there.
吉原遊廓の跡地には、現在も多数の性風俗店が立ち並んでおり、多くの男性が金を支払って女性と性行為をしている。吉原遊廓に女性を買いに来た男性はどのような人々であり、その相手をさせられた女性たちの経験はどのようなものだったのだろうか？戦後、遊廓は廃止されたはずであるのに、なぜ現在も吉原には性風俗店がたちならんでいるのだろうか？本授業では、まず吉原をはじめとする近代日本の遊廓・現代日本の性売買に関する基礎的文献や史料について、受講生が分担して講読・報告する。その上で、吉原遊廓跡地等やその周辺を歩き、吉原の過去と現在について認識を深めるとともに、関連する人々への聞き取りを行なう。最終的にはレポートを作成する。4月7日14:00から説明会を行ない、具体的なスケジュールを伝えるので、履修希望者はこれに必ず出席すること。
