This course provides a general outline of educational philosophy. While examining the basic concepts of philosophy and ethics, this course will connect these to issues in education to help students have a greater sense of what education is and how it should be implemented.
While introducing the basic concepts in philosophy and ethics, these thoughts will be applied to education. Students will consider questions such as “What about education is fundamental to people and what kind of meaning does it have?” Students will consider how education is positioned among politics, economics, and civic life in modern society. Class will involve lecture, small-group discussions, and larger class discussions. Students will be encouraged to develop a healthy skepticism toward what they have regarded as common sense until now.

教育哲学の概論的な講義を行います。哲学と倫理学の基本概念を理解しながら、それと教育の問題とを関係させて、教育とは何か、どうあるべきかについて考察を深めることを目的とします。

哲学と倫理学の基礎概念と基礎理論について概説しながら、その考えを教育に応用して、「人間にとって根源的には教育とは何か、どのような意味があるのか」という問いと「現代社会における政治・経済・市民生活の中で教育をどう位置づけるのか」という問いについて考えてゆきます。拙著『人は語り続けるとき、考えていない：対話と思考の哲学』での議論を発展させ、「対話的教育」というテーマのもとで講義します。質疑応答によって進めていきます。
