1) By acquiring basic knowledge of the theoretical frameworks of the subject of social studies (history, goals, methods), students will be able to grasp the significance and issues of the subject.
2) Students will be able to specifically conceptualize what they have learned from past practice regarding teaching methods for social studies.
1) Students will consider various issues surrounding historical changes of curriculum guidelines and textbooks geared toward post-war education and the historical development of social studies education.
2) Students will consider working on lesson reports regarding ways of conducting social studies classes accumulated friom post-war alternative education movements.

社会科という教科の理念や内容についてその歴史的展開を一方で追いつつ、他方で戦後日本を代表する社会科教育実践について平和で民主的な社会の担い手を形成する授業実践の思想と方法を学ぶことで、社会科の教科としての意義や特徴を把握する。

①戦後教育と社会科教育の歴史的展開について、学習指導要領の歴史的変遷や教科書をめぐる諸問題に照準を合わせて検討する。
②戦後の民間教育運動のなかで蓄積されてきた社会科の授業実践のあり方について実践記録を手がかりに考察する。

基本的に授業は講義形式であるが、学生への質問も活発に行う。教育実践についての評価を受講者のあいだで討論を試みることもしたい。積極的な受講態度が期待される。なお、受講者の問題関心や受講者数に応じて授業計画を一部変更する場合がある。必ずしも教員にならない学生にとっても戦後の民主主義の担い手を育てる課題を一身に背負って出発した教科としての社会科の理念や歴史を知ることは有益である。初等教育専攻課程の学生はもちろんのこと、教育学専攻の学生も積極的に履修をしてほしい。
