【Course Objectives】

Understand the ecological nature and human history, culture, and industry of a certain region in Japan, and gain an experiential understanding of issues and methods for building a sustainable society in line with the goals of the SDGs, while at the same time acquiring an ESD (Education for sustainable development) perspective.

【Course Contents】

Using the Rikkyo Global Campus in Rikuzentakata City, Iwate Prefecture as a base, the students will gain an understanding of the nature, history, culture, and industry of Rikuzentakata City, as well as the tsunami damage caused by the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake, interact with local people, and make proposals for creating a sustainable society in the region. At the same time, we will collaborate with the integrated inquiry class of students at Iwate Prefectural Takada High School to support the high school students' community development education and jointly present their inquiry education. After prior study, students will conduct field research for about 4 days and 3 nights with environmental experts from overseas, and make a presentation at the Global Campus on the last day. After the field research, each student will write a final report.
