While appreciating texts from English and American literature, students will learn the historical and cultural backgrounds and the literary techniques necessary for comprehension by beginners. While experiencing the potential of literature and the differences between Britain and the United States, students will sharpen their youthful senses to discover the directions in which their intellectual interests point.
In this class, multiple lecturers will each give one or two lectures on major topics in English and American literature, based on their respective fields of expertise and research subjects. By considering diverse works from diverse points of view, the course will show the diversity of English and American literature and the research surrounding it.

英米文学のテクストを鑑賞しながら，初学者にとって読解のために必要な文学的技法や歴史的・文化的背景を学びます。英米の差異や文学の可能性を体感すると同時に，若々しい感覚を研ぎすませ，おのおのの知的関心が指ししめす方向をみずから発見します。

本授業では，英米文学専修の複数の講師が各1-2回ずつ，それぞれの専門分野と研究対象に基づいて，英文学と米文学の主要なトピックを講義します。多様な作品を多様な観点から考察することによって，英米文学とその研究の多様性も示されます。
