This course will provide a historical overview of literature, culture, and society in France. It will also take up several works to introduce their content and their appeal in detail.
How are literary works written and read within their respective eras and social conditions? This course will provide a chronological outline of French literature and culture from the Middle Ages onward and will look at historical transitions, while organizing social conditions.
As a literary history class, the class will present many things to be memorized, but the content will represent the minimum education for students with an interest in France. Tests will include essay format tests, as well as checking of facts. While students accurately learn the characteristics of literature from each era and search in their own way for the hidden logic that connects them, it is important that they also participate actively in classes. The course will be taught in relay fashion by several faculty members.

フランスの文学・文化・社会を歴史的に概観します。またいくつかの作品を取り上げ、具体的にその内容・魅力を紹介します。
This course will provide a historical overview of literature, culture, and society in France. It will also take up several works to introduce their content and their appeal in detail.
文学作品は、それぞれの時代と社会状況のなかで、どのように書かれ、どのように読まれてきたのか？ フランスの文学と文化を中世から年代順に概観し、社会状況について整理しながら、歴史的な変遷を見ていきます。
いわゆる文学史の授業なので、おぼえることがらも少なくありませんが、フランスに興味を持つ者にとって最低限の教養といえる内容です。また試験には、事項の確認だけでなく、論述形式も含まれます。それぞれの時代の文学の特徴を的確に把握し、それらをつなぐ隠された論理を自分なりに探しながら、積極的に授業を受けることが大切です。複数の教員がリレー式で講義を行います。
