Through the practice of sharing and discussing a wide variety of legends and tales from the Hawaiian archipelago, this course will introduce some aspects of the many beliefs and narrative traditions of the Hawaiian Islands.
This course will involve oral storytelling practice, critical analysis of regional history, geography, and politics, and the debate of topics related to the study and understanding of the many island traditions of Hawaii. Following a series of weekly discussions concerning the history and local practices of Hawaii, students will be required to compose and present an original work of research related to one of the Hawaiian legends discussed during the course.

Homework will include weekly readings, weekly writing assignments, and the composition of a brief academic essay (800 words).
Also, some time and effort will be required to prepare for the final oral presentation.
