Reviewing basics of English philology and the backgrounds of the development of the English language.
This course deals with basics of English philology and of the historical development of English, illustrating the nature of the English language.

現代英語の特質を理解するとともに、英語学に関する基礎的知識を身に着ける。また、英語学に関するリサーチ方法の基礎を身に着ける。
Reviewing basics of English philology and the backgrounds of the development of the English language.
英語学の基礎を学びながら、英語とはいかなる性質の言語であるかについて学ぶ。毎回の授業は講義と課題に基づくリサーチとからなる。授業の前半はその時々のテーマに応じた講義を行い、後半はそれに基づき各自リサーチをし、その結果を文章にまとめ提出する。このような作業を繰り返すことで、講義による受動的な学びだけでなく、自らリサーチを行うことで、能動的に学びを深める。
