【Course Objectives】

Students will learn about foundation of literature, culture, and language in German speaking areas. These will form the basics of techniques and methods used in course in German literature.

【Course Contents】

Students will receive instructions on techniques used to summarize Introduction to Cultures in German Speaking Areas 1, taken simultaneously during spring semester, in protocols (records). Students will also receive instructions on oral presentation method, foundation of conducting scholarly Q&A, and self-driven learning methods by using reference books.
In this class, all class members will study specific parts of their textbooks before lesson. Each time, selected members will lead discussion and critique about that specific parts. Students will create and submit protocols for one lesson of Introduction to Cultures in German Speaking Areas 1. Students will train their abilities in: 1. Methods to take notes during the class; 2. Cautions when summarizing lesson details in texts; 3. Theoretically correct grammars and vocabularies in report writing; 4. Methods to create documents on their personal computers; 5. Performance during oral presentation to incite interests in others; 6. Methods to ask questions to draw out information correctly. In addition, students should bear in mind that expressing their opinions during discussion and proactive participation are required for attendance records. Furthermore, reference books will be specified for students’ final assignment to connect Introduction to Cultures in German Speaking Areas 1 and lessons learnt in high school world history class. In addition, students will receive assignments for summer holiday as preparation for Introductory Seminars C2a-c during autumn semester.
