Students will use Germanistik framework (in a broad sense “German studies”) and select research topics based on their awareness of issues. Students will clarify their questions and work towards their graduation thesis. To do that, they will learn how to collect data, research, read documents critically, author thesis, and present orally, by actually doing these tasks.
Students will present their research topics and all attendees will discuss these topics. Professors in charge will advise students on how to select their research topics and clarify their questions. Producing intellectual outputs (write thesis and present orally) requires inputs, including reading sample thesis and listening to other good presentations. Students are scheduled to both make presentations and read literatures (Japanese and German). Professors in charge specialize in 20th century literatures and thoughts in German speaking area (notably public and crowd theory, media theory, Holocaust literature, etc.) However, students are not limited to these subjects when choosing their research topics.

Germanistik（広義の「ドイツ研究」）という枠組みの中で、自らの問題意識に基づきながら研究テーマを選択し、問いを立て、最終的には卒業論文作成に向けて、資料収集と調査方法、資料の批判的読解、論文執筆、口頭発表の仕方などを実践的に学んでゆく。
Students will use Germanistik framework (in a broad sense “German studies”) and select research topics based on their awareness of issues. C3・C4（メディア文化・表象文化）ともに、個別発表あるいはグループ発表を行い、参加者全員で討論する。2年生は共通テーマ（例として「都市」「カタストロフィ」「群集」「孤独」など）、３・４年生は卒論につながるテーマで発表をしてもらう予定である。いずれも、研究テーマの選択や問いの立て方については担当教員が適宜アドバイスをする。学期によっては、共通のテクスト（文学作品や思想書などの文庫・新書）に基づいて議論をする可能性もある。その場合は、全員が共通テクストを購入するなどして入手する必要がある。
春休み・夏休みに発表原稿を準備することになるので、長期休暇中も課題がある。また普段からドイツ語の学習はもちろんのこと、自主的に本を読んだり、美術館・映画館に通ったりすることが望まれる。
担当教員の関心領域は、近現代ドイツ語圏の文学と思想・芸術・文化（特に大都市の文学・文化、ドイツ青年運動・ワンダーフォーゲル、青少年文学、ハプスブルク文化、東欧の文学、世紀末ウィーン、ヴァイマル文化、群集論・大衆論の系譜、メディア論、ホロコースト文学・戦争文学、ナチズムと過去の克服、移民文学など）であり、C3・C4（メディア文化・表象文化）ともに19世紀から20世紀にかけての時代に比重を置いているが、ゼミ生の研究テーマは必ずしもそれに縛られる必要はない。
