The class will provide easily understood explanations of methods for researching Japanese language and literature, and give students the skills required for students of Course in Japanese Literature.
Lectures will take wide-ranging perspectives on the questions of what Japan is, what the Japanese language and literature are, and where the significance and interest lie in learning about these. Actual classes will alternate each session among full-time faculty members in the Course in Japanese Literature. Materials will be prepared each time. Students will submit comments or short reports each session.

日本語・日本文学を研究するための方法をわかりやすく、かつ幅広く解説し、日本文学専修の学生にこの後の四年間の学びの基礎となるスキルを身につけさせる。
The class will provide easily understood explanations of methods for researching Japanese language and literature, and give students the skills required for students of Course in Japanese Literature.
日本とは何か、日本語・日本文学とは何か、それを学ぶことの意義やおもしろさはどこにあり、それをどのような方法で学ぶのかを幅広い観点から講義する。実際の授業は、毎回、日本文学専修の専任教員が交替で、それぞれの専門分野にかかわる講義を行う。授業の資料はその都度用意する。受講者には、毎回、コメントあるいは小レポートの提出を求める。
