Though analyzing “Japanese mythology,” students will consider many developments of premodern religion and acquire basic knowledge essential to the study of classical literature.
Mythology and Japanese kami
Mythology was created from the human need to explain the surrounding environment, and the ancient Japanese myths compiled in such works as Kojiki, Nihon shoki, and Fudoki are well known. In this seminar, students will choose a topic of interest to them related to a predetermined theme in the world of myths. They will conduct independent research, decipher and analyze the materials they discover, assemble their findings, and give a presentation on those findings to the class.

〈日本神話〉の分析を通して、前近代における信仰の諸相を考察するとともに、古典研究に必要な基礎知識を修得する。

テーマ「神話と日本の神々」
神話は、自らを取り巻く環境を説明する原理として人間が生み出したものであり、日本においては『古事記』や『日本書紀』、あるいは『風土記』に収められた古代の神話がよく知られている。本演習では、このような神話世界について、各自の関心にしたがってテーマを設定し、調査・読解・分析を行った上で、レジュメを作成してその成果を発表してもらう。
