Students will gain an understanding of the Japanese language throughout its history. In addition, they will become able to carefully consider the significance of learning the history of Japanese.
This course will explain the history of Japanese (history of Japanese and of Japanese language study) across separate eras. Students will actually read and interpret texts written through the eras, and will be required to consider the nature of the eras from the perspective of Japanese linguistics.

日本語の歴史について、通史的に理解できるようになること。また、日本語史を学ぶ意義についてしっかり考察できるようになること。

日本語の歴史（日本語史・国語史）について、時代を区切って解説していきます。時代時代に書かれたテキストを実際に読み解きつつ、その時代らしさを日本語学の立場から考察することが求められます。

歴史的事項を扱うため、高等学校までに学ぶ日本史の知識は必須である。未履修の者は、随時自学自習にて補うこと。また、高等学校までに学ぶ国文法の知識も前提として話を進めるため、用言の活用や古語、歴史的仮名遣いについて必要があれば確認しておくこと。講義には予習を以て臨み、復習を通じて理解を深めること。講義で触れられる部分は限られているため、図書館を活用した幅広い独習が求められる。
