【Course Objectives】

The goals of this course are to
・understand the specifics of the various schools of thought that fall within the framework of “Eastern philosophy”, while referring to the original sources,
・gain a perspective to consider on one's own what new possibilities for thought can be found in so-called “Eastern philosophy”.

【Course Contents】

This course introduces the contents of Neo-Confucianism, which once had an overwhelming influence in East Asia, based on an easy-to-understand introductory text. It will present the original sources and related materials used in the author’s explanations and reconfirm their contents. The status of issues that are subject to different interpretations will also be explained. Students will be encouraged to consider for themselves how Neo-Confucianism relates and does not relate to their own thinking, and whether or not it brings any new elements.
