【Course Objectives】

Students will learn the theoretical fundamentals for analyzing capitalism to acquire the ability to historically and theoretically examine the economic phenomena necessary to achieve the learning required for the degree.

【Course Contents】

This lecture explains in an easy-to-understand manner the origins of capitalism and its structure. There are various concepts regarding economics. Students consider what capitalism is from the perspective of Marxian economics in this lecture. During the spring semester what a commodity and currency are is explained, and then the basic terminology necessary for understanding why labor is a commodity, what is capital, what creates surplus value, and the society called capitalism are discussed in order. Learning this allows students to consider the problems faced by modern society, such as the effect on labor of long working hours, unstable employment, the setting of pay, and technological innovation. Reality is complex. It is important to acquire the tools (theory) to analyze that reality and then use those tools to consider the reality. This lecture gives students a way to do that.
