【Course Objectives】

The purposes of this lecture are to nurture the following perspective through the formation and development of classical economics: (1)characteristics of economic thought, (2)understanding the debate regarding the theory of value and distribution, and (3)relativizing the current state of economics.

【Course Contents】

As the context for the birth of the science of political economy, the lecture begins with tracing the process of how political economy arose as a field of the science from modern natural law and mercantilism to the birth of the science of political economy by Adam Smith. Next will be discussed the completion of the classical economics by David Ricardo after commenting the Malthusian controversy, etc. And then, I will lecture the various developments of economics after Ricardo to provide the fundamental perspective for comparison and organization of the current state of economics.
