【Course Objectives】

Through the history of monetary thought from the 18th century to today, students will gain an understanding of the three major frameworks of the real-bills doctrine, the quantity theory of money, and classical monetary theory that have developed over the last three centuries, and will also understand how our views on money and finance have continued to be influenced by their frameworks .

【Course Contents】

I will lecture a historical overview of the various ideas of money and finance, the importance of which is, of course, no doubt in any economy. Despite the refinement of monetary devices and systems, the history of monetary thought shows that similar ideas based on the same frameworks have reappeared over time, and evils such as economic bubbles and financial crises have repeatedly occurred. To overview the history of monetary thought will allow students to follow to the present day the relationship between the leading economists, who created economics, and monetary thought. And they will also understand the important aspect of the history of economic thought.
