【Course Objectives】

To gain an understanding of the development process of modern Asian economies including Japan for the purpose of grasping the diversity in the Asian economy and the history of its relationship with Europe and America.

【Course Contents】

This lecture mainly covers the modern Asian economy developmental process from the port opening period until World War I. The economic relationship between Asia and Europe and America is discussed while considering the positioning of Japan in the development of the Asian economy. This course is positioned as the first part of “Asian Economic History 2.”
