【Course Objectives】

Students will be able to correctly understand the effect of Chinese economic growth on the Japanese economy and the world by considering the history, conditions, and mutual relationship between China’s economic development and the institutional changes and by understanding the various aspects of the rapidly changing China's socioeconomic system.

【Course Contents】

This lecture will discuss from the perspective of political economy the economic development mechanisms and institutional reforms in China, which is the second largest economy in the world and Japan’s largest trading partner. Specifically, the various problems faced by the Chinese socioeconomic system as it transitions from high to moderate economic growth, such as market competition, regime changes, economic growth, income distribution, international relationships, employment and labor, the environment, and economic disparity, will be looked at and their occurrence mechanisms, conditions, transformations, and impact will be discussed.
