Building on the latest research output and data analysis results, we consider the state of direct investment in Japanese companies and the corresponding theoretical interpretation. In addition, the relationship between the Japanese economy and direct investment will be addressed and the impact that advancement of direct investment in Japanese companies has on the industrial structure of the Japanese economy will be considered.
Although it has been indicated that the advancement of direct investment has come with costs, such as the hollowing out of industry and job loss, there are few opportunities to talk about its benefits. This lecture will reveal the current state of foreign direct investment in Japanese companies from a variety of perspectives. In particular, in regards to the current advancement of direct investment in East Asia by Japanese manufacturers, this lecture also considers the formation by Japanese companies of East Asian networks as a business strategy, as well as the current issues and situation of the domestic economy in Japan, which has been left behind by this advancement, and the calls for structural reforms.

日本企業による直接投資の実態とその理論的解釈について，最新の研究成果やデータ分析結果をもとに検討する。また，日本経済と直接投資の関係性についても取り上げ，日本企業による直接投資の進展が日本経済の産業構造に与えるインパクトについても検討を行う。
Building on the latest research output and data analysis results, we consider the state of direct investment in Japanese companies and the corresponding theoretical interpretation. 直接投資の進展とともに，産業空洞化や雇用喪失がそのコストとして指摘される一方，そのベネフィットについて語られる機会は少ない。本講義では，日本企業による対外直接投資について，多面的な角度からその実態を明らかにしていく。とくに，現在の日本製造業による東アジアへの直接投資の進展について，企業戦略としての東アジアネットワークの形成と，その進展の中で取り残され，また構造変革を求められる日本の国内経済の現況と課題についても考察する。
