【Course Objectives】

The aim of this seminar is to learn the various methods for analyzing financial statements and then to practice them to utilize that knowledge as far as possible to be able to discuss contemporary accounting problems.

【Course Contents】

2nd and 3rd year students: First a basic textbook on financial accounting will be studied. The lecturer will decide whether to cover traditional accounting theory (profit and loss accounting; assets, liabilities, capital accounting) or the new accounting standards (or both) in consultation with participating students. Next, students will study a basic textbook on analyzing financial statements. Students will learn traditional analytical methods, such as profitability, efficiency, safeness, and growth potential.
4th year students: Students will write their graduation thesis. Students can freely set their theme within the scope of financial accounting. At first the way to write a thesis and how to search the literature will be explained. After that, during each class students will report on the progress they have made to date, the lecturer will comment on that, and then based on those comments the students will revise their work, and this process will be repeated each week.
 2nd and 3rd year students will basically read their textbook and everyone will ask questions about and discuss the reports that are given.
 4th year students will each set their own theme and write their papers.
