【Course Objectives】

As far as possible to “Be people with independent thinking ability who can respond to the changes in economic society with a broad perspective and flexible mind” as stated in the College of Economics degree granting policy, in this course students will acquire the ability to consider the history of the Japanese society from the Meiji Era to the present from literature, statistical materials, and fieldwork, to be able to relativize contemporary society from a historical perspective.

【Course Contents】

Historical considerations are indispensable for understanding the current economic society. Students must acquire a relativized perspective of contemporary society through historical research to understand the movements in today’s complex society. What this means is that history is “the dialog between the present and the past.”

The seminar will be conducted as a group study. The results of the joint research will be announced at the joint seminar (Hosei University and Tokyo Metropolitan University, Senshu University, Nanzan University, etc.) in December. Seminary students will actively visit companies to conduct interviews.

In FY2023, we would like to study and think about the modern society and economy of Japan through various approaches.Students that “love history” are very welcome, but participation by students without a particular interest in history is also fine. In addition, due to the way the seminar is conducted, positive and cooperative students are desirable, but there are also some students that realize they are negative and uncooperative. The later types are also very welcome. I look forward to participation by a variety of students.
