【Course Objectives】

The objective of this seminar is for students to acquire creative ability, the ability to take action, planning ability, the ability to make critical assessments, and the ability to collaborate through theoretical research on problems faced by Asia (political, economic, social, cultural, etc.) and joint research that can contribute to society.

【Course Contents】

In the K. Fukasawa seminar, students will research the economic development of Asia while also researching the related environmental problems, military problems, human rights problems, company globalization problem, and the impact from Japan’s policies toward Asia and the American world (Asia) economy. Joint research will be the specific activity during the fall semester.
Various activities will also be jointly undertaken with a variety of organizations (A “children’s experience school” will be jointly conducted with the Tokyo Shinkin Bank at Toshima Monozukuri Messe on the first Saturday in March of each year.) During the 2017 academic year we held the “Craftsperson Olympics” jointly with a Kumamoto company (120 elementary school students participated). In 2018, we collaborated with a long established confectionary store in Ikebukuro, and we succeeded in developing some new products, mainly by changing the packaging of the confectionary and pastry products. The main objective of the collaboration in 2018 was to create some iconic souvenirs of Ikebukuro and rediscover the attraction of Ikebukuro.In2019, we held a "kids' restaurant" jointly with a local store.
Asia is showing the most dynamic economic performance in the world. There are some good aspects to this (economic growth, etc.) and some bad aspects to this (destruction of the environment, oppression of human rights, military enlargement, etc.). Correctly understanding the multifaceted aspects of Asia leads to correctly understanding Japan and the world.
In the K. Fukasawa seminar, participants will engage in a variety of joint research under the motto “New Challenges by Students.” In particular, the objective is to contribute in a visible way to the real society through joint research aimed at creating a bridge between Japan and Asia.
An additional objective is for students to acquire creative ability, the ability to take action, the ability to collaborate, planning ability, and the ability to make critical assessments during the seminar. With these abilities please contribute greatly to society.
A characteristic of this seminar is being able to immerse oneself in studies and joint research during the 3 years (or 2 years) of campus life. This seminar has the tools for you to develop your potential. I await your proactive participation. Please also make friends for life.
