【Course Objectives】

The objective of this seminar is for students to learn about the historical development of the modern Asian economy and to increase their ability to identify cause and effect relationships while also increasing their ability to recognize diversity.

【Course Contents】

The region to be covered will be East Asia to include Japan, South Korea, China, and Taiwan, and for the prewar and war period the “Forced opening of ports by America and European countries,” “Imperialism and colonies,” etc., and for the post-war period the “Cold War structure and economic assistance,” “Developmentalism and economic growth,” etc., will be covered. Students will read materials and literature about the above to gain a correct understanding with the objective of being able to think, talk and write in their own words.
