To study the economic activities in cities and regional policy. For students to acquire the ability to conduct research, give presentations, and write papers through statistical data analysis and field studies for the purpose of being able to conduct regional analysis and propose policies. (Specified as a practical training subject for the Certificate of Social Researcher)
Students are required to identify problems, gather materials, conduct studies and analyses, and proactively present and discuss their findings.

都市における経済活動や地域政策について学ぶ。地域分析と政策の立案ができるようになることを目標に， 統計データ分析及びフィールド調査を通じて研究及びプレゼンテーション・論文執筆能力を身につける。（社会調査士資格実習科目に指定）

都市では人口や産業・文化が集積することでさまざまな魅力が生まれている反面，集中による交通混雑，居住環境の悪化，自然災害リスクの集中，地域間の格差等の問題が生じている。本ゼミナールではゼミ全体での具体的な研究課題を設定し，地域の抱える特徴や問題を明らかにし，都市・地域の持続可能な発展を実現するための方法と課題を検討する。過年度は，下記の活動を中心に行った。
１）都市経済学・都市政策の基礎や地域統計・計量経済分析，地理情報システム（GIS)を用いた地域経済に関わる実証研究の技法を学ぶ。
２）各個人が新聞記事等からトピックを選択し，背景や課題をまとめてゼミで報告し議論する。
３）2・3年生のグループ毎に主題や地域を分担してデータ分析及びフィールド調査を行い論文の作成とプレゼンテーションを行う。
４）夏休みに合宿等を行い，地方都市における災害復興や都市計画、緑地計画等の取り組みを学ぶ。

分担して行う輪読や研究報告，議論に向けては個人またはグループによる周到な準備を要する。
統計情報分析に取り組むため情報処理関連各科目及び統計学・計量経済学を履修済み，あるいは同時に履修することが望ましい。
初級ミクロ経済学、都市政策論1・2を並行して履修することにより、ミクロ経済学の理論を応用して都市・地域の問題を研究する準備を行うこと。
