【Course Objectives】

The objective of this seminar is, of course, to acquire knowledge regarding accounting and auditing, but considering the impact on accounting and auditing of the recent developments in artificial intelligence (AI), discussing the roles to be played by accounting and AI in society and companies will foster the ability of students to think on their own.

【Course Contents】

This seminar will provide a place for thinking about companies and society from the perspective of accounting and AI applications. Specifically, second year students will practice bookkeeping and gain basic knowledge from beginner textbooks on accounting, and third year students will know about AI and practice using Python during the spring semester and a flipped classroom using REAL (Rikkyo Economics through Active Learning) will be implemented. During the fall semester they will give presentations on themes of interest to them to prepare for writing their graduate thesis. Forth year students write presentations and papers on their research theme and write their graduation thesis.
In addition to this, they will give presentations on book reviews, English newspaper articles, etc., and participate in joint seminars and debates with other universities and enter essay contests. The graduate thesis theme can be on impairment accounting, cash flow accounting, current value accounting, internal control, the responsibility of auditors, etc., but it does not have to be directly related to accounting or auditing theory, and there is no problem with something like developing a simple app using Python. It is important to set a theme based on your interests without being restricted by an existing framework. In this seminar, students are required to proactively express their own opinions and questions.
