【Course Objectives】

Objectives of Ishida Seminar
The Ishida Seminar aims to nurture financial professionals with advanced knowledge and skills and to produce human resources who will succeed as employees in the finance department and corporate planning department of business companies, consultants, bankers, fund managers, securities analysts, certified public accountants, and researchers in the future. We study corporate finance and participate in contests based on our acquired knowledge.

【Course Contents】

Corporate Finance
Corporate finance is a discipline of evaluating the firm value and creating firm value. Therefore, by studying corporate finance, you will acquire the knowledge essential for financial professionals, such as what kind of company to invest in and what to do to help the company grow in the future. Corporate finance is a discipline that will help you in your career in society.

Activities in the Second Year
In the second year, students participate in the STOCK League sponsored by Nikkei Inc. In the STOCK League, students decide on an investment theme, construct a portfolio with a hypothetical 5 million yen, and complete a report. In the report, each team summarizes its investment theme, the reasons for its decision, and its portfolio composition. Through the STOCK League, students acquire basic skills in corporate finance.

Activities in the Third Year
In the third year, students compete in the Research Challenge sponsored by the CFA Society and the ESG Investment Contest hosted by Bloomberg. The Research Challenge is a competition for the best research reports on analytical company analysis. The ESG Investment Contest is a competition in which participants create a portfolio based on ESG initiatives using a hypothetical 10 billion yen, complete a report, and compete for the top prize. Through these activities, students acquire more practical skills in corporate finance.

Activities in the Fourth Year
In the fourth year, students will do a graduation project. In the graduation project, students will conduct academic research on corporate finance and acquire more advanced skills in corporate finance. If students so desire, they may submit the results of their graduation project in the form of a thesis for external prizes such as the Pronexus Prize Essay sponsored by Pronexus Inc., the M&A Forum Prize sponsored by RECOFDATA Corporation, and the Taxation Essay organized by the Tax Payment Associations.
