【Course Objectives】

To increase the level of understanding regarding contemporary finance and securities problems by gaining fundamental knowledge of finance and securities.

【Course Contents】

How we live our lives and manage companies today is strongly affected by the financial markets and financial institutions. For example, the American sub-prime loan problem that started in August 2007 created the conditions for an international financial crisis by using the “securitization” framework to distribute risk to the financial institutions in countries around the world. This international finance problem brought reformations to how financial institutions in America and Europe operate and to the financial regulatory framework while in Japan it had a major impact on our lives and business administration activities due to changes in the foreign exchange rate and stock prices.
In this seminar students will analyze such problems of contemporary finance and securities from a variety of angles while deepening their understanding of how they impact the Japanese economy and business administration. In addition, while observing such actual problems, students will learn various financial theories and analytical methods for analyzing such problems and then think about what management strategies and investment behaviors are desirable for financial institutions in the future.
In regards to how the seminar will progress, basically students will read the textbooks to acquire basic knowledge regarding finance and securities. They will also think about their own research themes and conduct studies and research about them. In addition, they will participate in the “Securities Seminar Conference” held in December and attended by students from throughout the country where they can deepen their interaction with students from other universities and learn practical methods for writing papers, giving presentations using PowerPoint, and holding discussions.
