【Course Objectives】

 What are the characteristics of the contemporary Japanese family from historical and international perspectives? The goal of this lecture is to understand the process by which the "family" was established in modern society and its transformation, taking into account the transformation of social structures in postwar Japan due to globalization.

【Course Contents】

 Family and intimate relationship issues are often considered personal problems. However, they change dramatically with time and social structure. To understand contemporary family issues, it is essential to understand the social structures and social changes surrounding them.
 In the first half of the lecture , students will learn about the family and life course changes in modern society. The second half of the lecture will consider the current state as well as the future of the family through topics related to contemporary family issues such as the partnership system, diversity in sexuality, and economic disparity.
