【Course Objectives】

Work is a basis to earn our livelihood and to form our identities. Work is also a basic element that gives meanings to our lives and existences. Students will learn and understand various issues surrounding work.

【Course Contents】

This course will introduce students to various issues discussed in industrial and labor sociology. Do employees have a control or a discretion over their work? Do employees in service sector confront requirements of emotional labor? Do employees in fast-food industry carry out the routinized interactive service work? Are atypical employments flexible and free ones, or otherwise unstable and poor employments? Why people work long hours? Do workers need labor unions?
